It’s no secret that I love me some social media. Even when I’m away from my computer I’m checking Twitter on my phone at least every half hour. I’ve gotten a little better about not posting everything on Facebook but let’s be honest, that’s mainly because I’m posting it all on Twitter. If it’s not one it’s the other. Then there’s the 103 blogs that I currently follow. I think that social media like Twitter, Facebook and blogs can be a good thing. I’ve met a lot of amazing people through my blog. Twitter has made it so much easier for celebrities to stay in touch with their fans. Facebook has helped me to reconnect with friends from when I lived in Texas and with family members all over the US.
With that being said, there is one thing that really drives me crazy about social media. Well not so much about social media as the way some people use it. For one, bullying. It drives me crazy that people use the internet in all forms to bully each other. But what I’m upset about today is how sometimes people don’t make sure that major people are aware of pretty major life events before they post about them. Whether it’s on Facebook, Twitter or here on the blog there are just certain people who I make sure know stuff before I post about it.
When we got engaged we made sure that we had both told our families and closest friends before we posted anything about it on Facebook. I think that it should be the same when you find out your pregnant, when you have your babies and when someone gets really sick, in any kind of accident or passes away.
Finding any of that stuff out via the internet really sucks. I’ve had it happen to me more than once, with different things and it hurts. Just try to think about other people. I mean how would you feel if you found out something major about a family member or close friend over the internet?
