Happy first day of June everyone!!! What better way to celebrate the start of a new month than to talk country music!!! Like most of the artists I feature here, I met M through twitter. I listened to his music for a few months and then reached out to him about being featured on the blog. He said yes and the rest is history.
What are your top two goals for your music career?
To touch the lives of as many listeners as possible. To write material and sing songs that will leave a distinct mark on country music.
Do you find that it’s easier to write songs alone or with someone else?
It’s usually easier for me to get songs started alone and then finish them off with another writer.
Who has inspired you the most musically and personally?
I would say my Dad; Joe Callahan for both.
You were in a musical. What was that like?
It was a lot of fun. Its different than playing music in the sense that you can really utilize multiple dimensions to pull off a character in a story. I would do it again!
When can we expect to hear your next album “Black Water”?
We will start recording the album in August. Most likely a September release date if all goes accordingly.
What’s one word that your family/friends would use to describe you?
What song, yours or someone else’s, would you say best describes your outlook on life?
It’s on the next album…Gonna have to wait!
Everyone seems to have some kind of routine to get ready for a show. What’s yours?
I usually will run over scales on the guitar so my hands are warmed up and my fingers do what they are supposed to.
You get to travel a lot when you’re touring. Where is someplace you haven’t been, but have always wanted to go?
I haven’t played in Japan yet. I think that would be amazing.
I go to a lot of concerts. What has been your favorite concert that you’ve attended?
Two – Bonnaroo..saw John Prine and Tenacious D! Also saw a Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan concert.
Your song Checkout Boy cracks me up. If you hadn’t got into music, what would you want be when you grow up?
Working in a grocery store…scanning them melons, bagging them buns, sackin those thighs…thinking my oh my!
You’re originally from Arkansas and spent some time in Texas before moving to Nashville. Where have you felt most at home?
Texas…great Tex-Mex food & Shinerbock…Plus people do waaaaay more two stepping there.
If we looked through the music on your phone what would be find?
George Strait, John Hiatt, Pantera, Vince Gill, Megadeth, Sam Smith – a listen to a bit of everything.
Before I let you go, I have a lot of people follow me on Twitter because of my love of country music. What would your advice be to someone trying to get into country music?
1.Stick to your guns and write music you believe in.
2.Be unique i.e.yourself and don’t chase the radio. 3.Learn how the business side of music works.
