I think the part of our wedding that I was looking forward to the most was the reception. I was nervous about the ceremony and having all those people looking at me so I was really excited for that part to be over so that we could just relax and enjoy our guests. Our reception was held in a beautiful tent and the gazebo where the ceremony was held became the dance floor. Some of my favorite picture from our wedding are the ones from the reception.
I knew that I wanted the center pieces to be simple but elegant and they turned out exactly how I wanted them. We rented the black napkin, glass mirror and glass candle holders from a local company for $65 for all of them. We bought all our wedding flowers, including the ones we used on the cake, in the center pieces and for all the bouquets and boutonnieres from a craft store in Idaho Falls for $150. I’ll tell you what, if you can get them on sale silk flowers are the way to go! I ordered the vases from this website and paid about $15 for all of them after shipping. The beans were a last-minute decision and something that he suggested. I think they really pulled it together nicely.
Each table also had eight of our wedding favors. I ordered the black bags from this website for about $20 and we filled them with M&Ms that I bought around Valentines day so that they were pink and white. Patty and I made the little tags that went on each bag. They were a mission and way more work than we thought they would be but they were totally worth it.
We decided that instead of a traditional guest book we would have our guests sign the matting of a picture frame so that we can put one of our wedding pictures in it and hang it up. It was fun to sit down after the wedding and read what everyone wrote.
Our wedding cake turned out exactly how I had pictured it in my head. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful wedding cake. The fact that my G-Ma made the topper just made the whole thing that much more special. We actually saved money have having a fake wedding cake. The top-tier was real but the bottom two were fake. We had three half sheet cakes to serve our guests. It was also cheaper to have butter cream frosting rather than fondant. The lady that made our cake did such an amazing job smoothing the frosting that you couldn’t even tell it wasn’t fondant.
We also had her made us a grooms cake. I ordered it without telling my husband what it was going to look like (I did end up eventually telling him because he kept asking) and I think it turned out perfect!
I had every intention of being nice when we cut the cake and I wasn’t going to smash it in his face or anything, but he decided to smash it in mine so when he came in to give me a kiss I returned the favor. I ended up with cake all over my face but he ended up with it in his ear… oops
My dad and I danced to “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw
Dennis and his mom danced to “My Wish” by Rascal Flats.
We had a table at the reception that I called the “Look at Us” table. It had wedding pictures of all our family and friends along with the quote, “If you want to know how true love should be then just look at us.”
After all the other dances we had my Uncle (who was our DJ) make an announcement that we would like all the couples to come up for a special dance to “Look at Us” by Vince Gill. I’ve always loved that song and my G-Pa called a radio station one year and had them play it for my G-ma for their anniversary so it has a very special place in my heart. After all the traditional wedding reception stuff was done we had a blast hanging out and dancing with friends.
