Happy Monday Love! Today is a very special day around these parts. On this day 57 years ago my Daddy was born. Because of him I know the importance of education and have an unwavering love and respect for my country and those that fight to protect it.
While trying to find the above picture I came across the letter that I wrote him when I made a frame that had the letter, a few pictures and a poem for him for Father’s Day. Years later every word in this letter is still 100% true.
Everyone says that there is nothing quite like the bond shared between a father and his daughter. It’s one that is set in stone the first time he looks at his new born baby girl. I wonder, when you held me for the first time did you think forward to teaching me how to ride a bike? I bet you didn’t picture it being when I was twelve. What about my first water-slide? You probably thought I would remember to stand up. How about when you would finally give in and get me my first cell phone? Man was that an expensive investment! Did you look forward to my high school graduation and the day I started college? Were you scared that you would raise me wrong? Well let me tell you, you and Mom did an amazing job! Words can never explain the love and appreciation that I have for you in my heart. You’ve always made sure that I, first and foremost, know how much you love me. As I’ve grown up you’ve always made sure that I know how proud of me you are. You’ve taught me that I can’t let my fear of failure get in the way of trying new things. I’ve learned that important moments in life are only as special as the people you share it with, and no one is more special then family. You’ve taught me the importance of an education, and waited patiently until I was ready to further mine. When the time came for me to spread my wings and move out on my own you gave me the strength and reassurance, even though I’m sure it wasn’t easy. You’ve taught me that I can’t sell myself short and that I have to trust in my abilities. You’ve shown me that a father’s love is unconditional and forever growing. From you I have gained faith in myself, knowledge, determination, and an unstoppable attitude. For that I am eternally grateful.
This is the first year in a very long time that I’ve actually been with him on his birthday. For those of you that didn’t hear, I am currently driving cross country with my parents to move my Dad’s dad from Chicago to Tampa, FL. Nothing says “family bonding” like being in a car together for 40+ hours.
I have a nice little line up or ladies taking over for me while I’m gone so I hope you’ll be nice and that you enjoy their posts.
