Friday morning my Mom text me to say they were heading to my Uncle’s house for a football fundraiser and said “Wish you could be there.” I thought why can’t I.. I don’t have anything going on this weekend. I called SS to see if she wanted to go and after talking to her husband she called me back to say “let’s do it!”
I had to get the oil changed on my car so we had to wait until I got that done. Of course that gave us a few hours to not only get things pulled together but for us to start freaking out a little. SS and I are both planners and we don’t just up and drive 7 hours on a whim like this. We are so glad that we did though.
Around 2:30 that afternoon we loaded up the kids and started the seven hour drive to where my Uncle lives. We got there around 10:30 their time so we went straight to the hotel and surprised them at the venue the next morning. Trying to stay hidden when your family is staying at the same hotel is a little harder than we thought it would be. We almost ran into them Saturday morning, but SS was able to dash back into the room before they saw her. However that wasn’t the most eventful thing to happen on Saturday morning before we surprised them..
Somehow I managed to drop my tank top in the toilet. There wasn’t anything in the toilet but still I couldn’t find it in me to keep it and since it was old anyway I just threw it away, put my sweatshirt on and ran to WalMart to buy another one. After we got ready, we loaded up the kids in the car and as I was getting in the button on the back pocket of the jeans I was wearing (my favorite pair and the only pair I had packed for our short trip) got caught on my seat and ripped a huge hole in my butt of my jeans. I had to run back into the hotel and put my yoga pants back on just so that we could get to the venue to surprise everyone!
We had to come up with the code names because having code names just makes a surprise mission more legit. His football team is the Bulldogs so we we went with “Papa Dog” for him. Since we drug two kids under the age of three seven hours away for a one day vacation with less than 12 hours notice we decided “Crazy Town” was a good one for us.
After a “Papa Dog with this Crazy Town. We are descending. Requesting permission to land.” followed by, “Permission granted Crazy Town.” we pulled into the parking lot. We had decided that I would go in first and after a few seconds, she would come in with the kids. They were all so busy when I walked in that they didn’t even notice until I told them to put me to work.
After everyone calmed down we got straight to work getting everything set up so that I could leave and go buy myself some new jeans. After we got back to the hotel to get ready we realized that our sink was leaking. Luckily the only thing that got wet was my already ripped jeans that had been kicked under the sink and they were able to fix it easy so we didn’t have to move rooms.
When we walked out to get in the car and head to the venue for the dinner we were greeted with HUGE snow flakes falling. On the way there I completely lost it. I was hysterically laughing in an attempt to not cry. I kept saying “It’s snowing… my shirt fell in the toilet and I ripped my jeans and now it’s freaking snowing” SS looked at Miss. E and said “It’s ok.. Aunt Kelly’s just loosing it.”
Once we got in there we had a great time and they raised a bunch of money for my Uncle’s team. The next morning we packed up and headed home. It made for a long, exhausting, weekend but it was all worth it to get to surprise my family and get to see a cousin that I hadn’t seen since my wedding two and half years ago.
So… what did you do this weekend?
