I’ve finally found the time to sit down and write about our Christmas trip to see my family. We drove over the Saturday before Christmas and came home two days after Christmas. Getting to spend a week with my family is always full of fun. Getting to have my fiance with me this year was even better. Since my brother is going to school an hour and a half away we met up with him and did the drive together. What should have been a seven hour drive ended up taking us a little over ten because of the roads. We were amazed with the crappy condition of the roads in Montana. You could literally see the Montana/Idaho state line on the road.
Sunday morning we went to breakfast with Ben’s sister and her family. It was great to get to see everyone, but it ended with four of the five of us getting food poisoning. Monday we spent the day doing some last-minute shopping with my Mama, but by 9:00pm Monday night I was throwing up. I spent the whole night throwing up ever hour or so and then spent all day Tuesday sleeping. I don’t even remember the last time I was that sick.
We had planned to spend Wednesday baking, but I still wasn’t feeling 100% so while my Mama did all the baking I alternated sleeping on the couch and addressing the envelopes for their Christmas cards. It sucked being so sick while we were there to have fun, but I’m glad that we didn’t have too much planned for those two days that I had to miss out on.
Christmas Eve we went to see the last Hunger Games movie. This is something we’ve done for the last few years. A tradition that I’m sad to see end with the series being done. It was nice to have my brother home and able to go with us this year. He’s the only other person in my family who has read (and remembers) the books. Getting to talk to him about the differences was fun.
This was the first Christmas that my brother, sister and I were all under the same roof on Christmas Eve in five years. We spent the night playing games, eating no-bake cheese cake and comparing what we asked Santa for.
Getting to wake up with my siblings, parents and fiance all under the same roof was amazing. I laid in bed smiling about the fact that Dart and I were not only spending out first Christmas together, but that we were going to do it with my family. We spent the morning enjoying amazing waffle bowls filled with chocolate, strawberries and whipped cream. We opened presents and then got everything ready for the rest of the family to come over for Christmas dinner.
I love when the whole family gets together. Not only do we get together for Christmas dinner, we also get together the day after for a family breakfast. We went home on Sunday. I spend most of the drive sleeping but from what I’m told, the roads were great. Luckily I had the whole next week off work too. It was nice to get to have a whole week just Dart and I.
I can honestly say that this is one of the best Christmas’ I’ve had in a while and I can’t wait to see what next year has is store!
