Last night Brandi and I were supposed to take JMan to a scarecrow making class that the city was putting on, but we changed our minds and decided to go to the guys softball game instead. I know this might come back to bite me, but making a scarecrow can’t be that hard so we’re gonna try sometime to do it ourselves. When we got to the game there was a lady bug on the fence. I didn’t realize that he had never seen a lady bug before, so when I pointed it out he was in total aww!!
This past week I’ve been talking to a lot of people about possible honeymoon places for Dennis and I. I’ve looked up cruises, Hawaii, Europe (not very seriously) and more. I was pretty surprised with how affordable-ish cruises are. I say “affordable-ish” because they are still more than we really want to spend. The ones that I’ve looked at as a possibility are like $4,000 – $5,000… same with a trip to Hawaii… I know it’s our honeymoon, but I just have a hard time spending that kind of money on a vacation when it could be put towards a house or paying off cars or something.
Right now, an idea that I’m really liking is doing a long weekend in Victoria, BC. I’ve talked to a few people who have said they loved it there! We would probably go over the Thursday after the wedding and them come home on Sunday. The other thing about going to Victoria, for me at least, is that if we’re going to be over there I’d really like to go to La Push and possibly Forks and do a few “Twilight” themed things. I know that those things wouldn’t be to high up on Dennis’ list, but we could spend a day at least going to La Push. It would be fun, for me at least.
I was hoping to do a lot better at blogging about the whole wedding planning experience so I’ve decided to try something new. Wedding Planning Wednesday!! I’m really hoping to be able to post something every Wednesday, but let’s be honest I’m not the best at keeping up with things and seeing as how Fall quarter at school, bowling and softball just started who know how I’ll do… but it never hurts to try! Maybe I’ll even try to come up with some cute little picture to go with it.
So not much wedding planning has been going on. I finally got all of my bridesmaids gifts in and correct. After the first time they tried to ship they went wrong I got in the correct colors, but they forgot Brandi’s. So since hers game in the other day those are all taken care of.
Yesterday I got bored so I was looking at ring guards/wraps on a few different store’s websites. I keep going back and forth with whether I just want two simple white gold bands or if I want a wrap. I found a wrap that I REALLY like at Zales.com so it might be something that we look into.
Since we got engaged I have had people telling me, “you know you don’t have to plan your whole wedding in the first few months your engaged right?” As you can imagine, that got really old really fast. Of course I know that! We are waiting a year for our wedding because I wanted time to be able to get things slowly rather than having to spend a big chunk of money all at once. Not to mention being able to take time to find things and get good deals on them rather than having to pay a fortune for something because we were in a rush.
Today the main piece of my gift to my bridesmaids came in. I ordered them at the beginning of August but they had to be personalized so I just figured that’s what was taking so long and wasn’t really worried about it. I wasn’t even planning on buying them this early, but when I found them at a really good price (normally $25 + $8 to personalize… I got them for $5 + $8 to personalize) I decided to act on it because I don’t exactly have the best track record of things being on sale or available later/when I’m ready to order them. I ordered them in black with the personalization done in hot pink… when I opened the box today they were navy blue with hot pink… oops!
While we were in Idaho visiting my family the first week of August (pictures to come) I went wedding dress shopping with my Mama, Grandma Gonzales (mom’s mom) and Grandma Soles (dad’s mom). The idea was to get to have that experience with them and get an idea of what styles of dresses I liked and what looked good on me. I figured that I would come back to Washington and start seriously looking at dresses in December or January.
That isn’t exactly how it happened. I GOT MY DRESS!!! I am so excited, I absolutely love it and it’s beautiful (no it’s not any of the dresses pictured before lol). I wasn’t sure how I felt about it when it was on the hanger, but as soon as I got it on I knew that it was the one!! The fact that my Grandma Gonzales is the one that actually picked it out for me to try one just made it even more special to me.
We had an appointment with our cake lady last night (was actually on July 26th)! We’ve decided to go with Kakes by Kathy and I’m really excited. I decided to go with Kathy because she did the cake at my high school friend, Kaylee’s wedding in June. They did sheet cakes to serve to the quests to save cost and I thought was a great idea!
We’ve decided on a 3 tier square cake. The bottom two tiers will be fake since we’re going to have the sheet cakes to serve to guests. We will pretend to cut the bottom tier for pictures and then they’ll bring us a piece of one of the sheet cakes and we’ll use that to feed to each other (and hopefully it’ll just be feeding, not smashing). We thought we wanted fondant, but decided to go with a smoothed buttercream in stead because it’s cheaper and tastes better.
We finally have a venue! We decided to go with Promise Garden after all. After we talked about it we realized that’s where we wanted to have it and we could make it fit into the budget so we decided to go for it! We are meeting with them tomorrow to drop off our deposit and finalize times and other details. We’ve also finalized a date. June 30, 2012!
I can’t wait to pick out my dress and cake and music and flowers! I can’t wait to meet with our officiate and finalize all the ceremony details! I can’t wait to set up the center pieces that I can so beautifully visualize in my head! I can’t wait to be in the beautiful bridal room at the Promise Garden with my bridesmaids and family getting ready! I can’t wait for Dennis to see me in my dress for the first time and to walk with my dad and meet the man of my dreams! I can’t wait to say our vows and become husband and wife in front of the most important people in our lives. I just can’t wait!!!!
We’ve been engaged for almost two weeks and I’m already feeling stressed out! Everyone keeps telling me that I don’t have to plan the whole wedding in the first few weeks that we’re engaged… duh!! I’m not completely stupid, but I do know that we want a June wedding next year and venue’s fill up fast! We’ve talked to quiet a few, almost all the ones in town I’m sure, and I’m just blown away with how expensive they are! I don’t understand how they can charge $5,700 for a venue and all it includes is the venue, tables, chairs, and setup/takedown. It just blows my mind!!
We went yesterday to look at the Promise Garden in Pasco and we both loved it… we would be able to do everything there… get ready, take pictures, our ceremony and our reception! We could get in at 10:30 the morning of our wedding to set up anything that we needed to set up and then we wouldn’t have to leave until the reception was over. The only problem is that it’s $3,000 and then another $1,000 for food. I know that to some people that might now sound like a whole lot, but when you’re trying to keep your wedding as close to $6,000 as you can it can be intimidating.
Yesterday was our 5 year anniversary and I had pretty much convinced myself that he wasn’t going to ask me… boy was I wrong!! We were going to go out to dinner after he got off work at 6:00 so when he got home I was ready to go. Right before we left we had a conversation that went a little like this.
HIM: I feel bad.
HIM: Because I didn’t get you anything.
ME: I didn’t get you anything either”
HIM: Yeah, you got me that hat.
ME: A hat isn’t a big deal.
