I realized the other day that I haven’t done a single post about my wedding planning! What the heck is wrong with me? At one point I had wanted to do an update once a month. The problem with having a super long engagement is that your planning is really spread out and there are months that I go without doing anything wedding related. That’s about to change. The second Wednesday of every month I’m going to post about what I did the month before and make a list of things that need to be done this month.
Something to know about our wedding – We are paying for it ourselves. We’ve both been married before and I wasn’t about to let my parents pay for another wedding while paying for my brother to go to college. I’m pretty good at making a budget. Keeping to that budget isn’t quite as easy for me, but luckily Dart keeps me reigned in. Having a long engagement has allowed us to hunt for sales and not feel forced to buy expensive things because of a time crunch. Let’s take a look at what we’ve done so far…
The Center Pieces
I knew what I wanted and then I found these on a wedding swap group on Facebook. If you are planning a wedding, I would suggest trying to find a group like this in your area. They are amazing and I only paid $40 for 30 of them. We got some burlap to use at table runners and will have these with some flowers like what’s pictured below.
Another steal from a wedding swap group on Facebook. Yes, I bought a used dress. The thing is that after all the traditional reception stuff – first dance, father/daughter dance, cutting the cake, etc – all the girls and I will be changing into jeans and button ups to enjoy the rest of the party and the bonfire. In other words, I didn’t see the point in paying hundreds of dollars for a dress that I wouldn’t even be wearing the whole night. I talked to Dart about it and he was totally ok with it. It will need some alterations, but I couldn’t pass it up when it was so close to what I wanted and only $80!!!
Back in August, before he had officially proposed, Jessica and I went to Hobby Lobby for something and got totally distracted by the fall flowers. They were 40% off and before we knew it we had bought all the flowers for the wedding. Originally I had thought I wanted all of us to have cream-colored flowers but after looking at everything and talking through it I changed my mind. Our colors are cream and brown so some fall colored wild flowers are the perfect way to add color!
We got our engagement pictures back last weekend and I’m absolutely in love with so many of them. Our amazing photographer drove the two hours up to the big city and then the 30 minutes out-of-town so that we could take them at our wedding venue.
On the list for December
- Finalize Save-The-Date Design
- Finalize Guest List
- Gather Up Addresses
We’ve already started talking about our Save-The-Dates and I’ve made up a few samples for us to choose from. The biggest thing this month is going to be finalizing the guest list and gathering addresses. I’m hoping that with the holidays and family time coming up, I’ll find time to sit down with both Mom’s and get address for everyone.
Question – Do you think it’s tacky to hand deliver some of our Save-The-Date and Invitations? I’m talking about most of our friends or people that we see on a regular basis.
