Valentine’s day is Sunday and this year I’m going into it with a completely different outlook and plan than last year. February 14th will always be a special day for Ben and I. Not because it’s Valentine’s day, but because it was the first time that we really talked again. We were on the phone for over six hours catching up on life and building a bond that would change our lives. We decided that we don’t want to spend Valentine’s day trying to get into a restaurant like every other couple out there so we’ll go out to dinner the next day. We still want to celebrate the day of so I’ve pulled together a list of cheap date nights ideas.
Have a Picnic at home
Whether you order delivery or make it yourself, change things up. Put a blanket on the living room floor and eat in there. Turn on some music, but not the TV. Talk to each other. Maybe play a question game like this one from Dating Diva’s.
Have An At Home Movie Night
Rent a movie from RedBox or find one on Netflix and make some popcorn. Don’t just sit on the couch though. Blow up and air-mattress, pull the mattress in from your bedroom or make your own with a mountain full of blankets. Best part? If you fall asleep watching your movie, you’re already in bed.
Do a Decor Project Together
I made those letters for above our bed and they were super easy. All you need are letters like these from Hobby Lobby, some paint in whatever colors match the room you’d like to hang them in, a few paint brushes and either newspaper or an old sheet. You really only need to paint the front and all the sides, just make sure that you’re painting them right. We accidentally painted the “&” backwards and didn’t notice until it was already hung so I had to pull everything back out and repaint it.
Go Through Old Pictures & Home Videos
Pull out your scrapbooks and look through old pictures or watch some old home videos. If you’re a fairly new couple this could be a great way to get to know each other’s past a little better. If you’ve been together a while it will be a fun trip down memory lane.
This might seem like a weird one, but it could really be fun. Pick a theme. Date nights, redecorating or building your dream house and then take to pinterest. Most TVs can be connected to laptops these days so you can blow everything up to be able to see it better. Us girls spend so much time planning things out thanks to Pinterest, it might be fun to let the guys in on the action.
We haven’t decided which of these we’re going to do on Valentine’s day, maybe a combination of a few. I can’t wait to hear what y’all end up doing with your special someone.
